20 Turkey Tips in 20 Days: #14 Asking Acceptance

Turkey Tip #14: Asking Acceptance

When calling to a group of hens during the peak of the breeding season, avoid raspy calls. Rasp indicates aggression or excitement, which might spur a negative reaction from a hen. Soft, clear calling, on the other hand, helps you “ask for acceptance” into the turkeys’ social hierarchy. If you gain that acceptance, the hens might pull a longbeard to you.
