Can’t wait for spring turkey season …

Can’t wait for spring turkey season …

Before we know it, many turkey seasons have passed. Some years we get plenty of time in the woods, sometimes only a few sits. One thing for certain — we all want more.

Life gets busy, and there is always plenty of stuff going on during turkey season. Yard work, vehicle maintenance, house projects, work schedules, kids’ activities, hunting land projects and others.

With so many responsibilities these days, it can be easy to just get a hunt over with, whether we had success or not, and move on to the next thing on the list. I’m guilty of it, too.

Not this year, if I can help it. The goal this year is to take the time and soak it all in. To turn off the social media and put down the phone. From sharing some coffee with hunting pals, to hearing those first gobbles and watching turkeys being turkeys, to sitting back under a big ol’ oak tree witnessing the woods wake up, to sharing the experience with friends — I want to really take it all in. And if the turkeys gods are smiling, that’ll hopefully include a tagged tom or two before the season’s clock runs out.

To help create our own luck this spring, we have put together an outstanding lineup of turkey hunting knowledge and guidance in this year’s edition. Hunt public land? Trying to improve your calling? The pages inside cover those topics and much, much more.

There are proven strategies from longtime turkey gurus about how they pull stubborn gobblers across rivers, fences, property lines and other obstacles to seal the deal. If running and gunning is your style, we have a great feature on how to bring decoys into that game successfully, while staying mobile. Dreamed of heading west to tag a Merriam’s in a majestic setting? We covered that, too.

This issue also digs into the reasons why the late season is a great season, and how to make the right decision at crunch time. Ammo is always a hot topic, and we get a look into a couple of stalwart manufacturers in the shotshell world. And, of course, there is a ton of new gear to check out for the wish list.
