Winchester Ammunition introduces Long Beard XR, the most innovative lead turkey load in company history, designed to provide increased lethality at longer ranges — more than any other turkey load.
Featuring new Shot-Lok Technology, Long Beard XR offers the tightest patterns and longest shot capability of any lead turkey load in history — with twice the pellets in a 10-inch circle out to 60 yards compared to traditional lead loads. Shot-Lok Technology is a hardened resin that completely encapsulates the lead pellets. It eliminates air space around pellets, preventing movement, which ultimately leads to almost no pellet deformation. As the shot is charged, the resin fractures, forming a micro-buffer as the shot pattern leaves the barrel. The pellets remain round and fly straighter and tighter, resulting in highly consistent payloads and devastating knockdown power at longer ranges — 10 percent greater penetration over standard lead loads out to 60 yards. That gives Long Beard XR the knockdown power of popular heavier-than-lead loads at a fraction of the cost.
Winchester Long Beard XR will be offered in two 12-gauge loads: 3-inch shells with 1-3/4 ounces of Nos. 4, 5 or 6 shot, or 3-1/2-inch loads featuring 2 ounces of Nos. 4, 5 or 6 shot. Each box contains 10 rounds.

Killed my first Turkey with the 3″ #5s at about 25 yards. Did the job, but I just spent 30 minutes and had to
use my brass screen to clean the junk out of my barrel. I will probably look for another type of Turkey Load.
These loads are the real deal folks! I’ve hunted with a Winchester 1300 for 15 seasons and until now it didn’t like any Winchester ammo, not even Supremes. As a result I always shot Federal. That all changed with the introduction of Long Beard XR. My gun absolutely loves them and they pattern beautifully. I bagged gobblers with them in both 2014 and 2015 and the birds I shot barely flopped.
I never thought I needed heavier than lead loads, always believing in the down range energy of # 4s. But a tighter group of lead #4s? Now your talking!
This year i changed loads from Winchester Extended Range 12ga 3in #5 shot to the new Winchester long beard XR lok’d & lethal ammo. I used the 12ga 3in 1200 velocity 1 3\4 oz #5 shot. i shoot a remington 870 magnum with a jellyhead choke from primos total shooting length of barrel including choke 26 3\8 in. i patterned my 870 at 50 yds yes 50 yds i got tired of not having the range that i should have. The best i could get out of the Extended range was 34 pellets in a 10in circle at 50yds i shot 3 times. The best i got with the Long Beard XR LOK’D & LETHAL was 93 pellets in a 10in circle at 50yds i shot 3 times the other two had 81 and 87 pellets respectively. to me it was no choice. last friday in a 7 1\2 hour test of wills i won out against the biggest gobbler that i ever killed. had choice of 2 toms and a lone jake i never shoot jakes. one tom had bout a 11 in beard slender build with around 1 in spurs i guess on the beard but the spurs were accurate for i had time to glass both birds when they got to within 10 to 20 feet of my blind. I let both gobblers get out to my 44yd decoy then dropped the fat gobbler. that gobbler that fell to my gun that day weighed in at 27 1\8 lbs 9 3\4 in beard and 1 in spurs he had so much front weight on his breast that his beard was dragging constantly on the ground so who knows how long it could have been. i dropped him in one shot like a hot rock at 44 yds great day killed bird at 12:03 p.m. didn’t call for 2 1\2 hours birds were not responding to calls anyways sat and waited patiently all good things come to those who really work for it. as for the winchester long beard xr with the right combo of choke and barrel length it was as advertised. if u have the right combo of loads, choke, and barrel length u can easily kill birds at 50 yds. i did a lot of research with a lot of trial and error but have found the right combo for my 870. i highly recommend the Long Beard XR turkey loads as a good starting point.
