Here are a couple of final notes from another tremendous National Wild Turkey Federation National Convention.

Late call-making legend Dick Kirby, founder of Quaker Boy, was honored with the C.B. McCleod Award, which is given annually to an NWTF volunteer who has
dedicated his life to wildlife, conservation and the hunting
heritage. It’s named after NWTF volunteer C.B. McCleod, of Crestview, Fla., who was instrumental in keeping the NWTF moving
forward during its formative years.

Kirby’s family accepted the award on his behalf. He was one of the original members of the NWTF in the 1970s, and gave his time and talent to all
levels of the organization, including serving nine years on its national board
of directors in the 1990s. Kirby died Sept. 30, 2010.

Also, Michael Widner, recently retired biologist for the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, was given the Wayne Bailey Lifetime Achievement Award for his lifetime of commitment to conservation.

The award recognizes Widner’s 36 years of
conservation work, which played an important role in the
resurgence of turkeys in North America.
