If a bird catches you with your gun down, don’t panic. Keeping an eye on the bird, start moving your gun slowly and gradually toward him. Make sure it’s at a super-slow-motion pace, because if they see movement, they’ll take off. Provided it’s not sharp movement, they’ll tolerate it a bit. Even if they see soft movement, it puts them on soft alert vs. full-bore alert. Usually, you can get the gun up on the bird 90 percent of the time.
