To tell you the truth, Mark, I've been doing it for so long I don't even know for sure!  What ever I do, it just comes naturally.  I'll try to pay attention next time I shoot at something and let you know.

Left eye only for me (left-handed shooter).  All I see are the beads along the rib of my shotgun when they line up with that gobbler's red head, then lower the boom.

Hey Mark,

I normally shoot with both eyes open but had to change that briefly a few years ago.

I shoot off my right shoulder and my dominate eye is my right eye. A few years ago, I was having a real problem with my shooting and learned that my left eye was trying to take over and become dominant. That can be a factor of age, I've since learned.

I had to shoot with my left eye closed for a time and then gradually started with both eyes open again. I've not had the problem since.

I've had numerous readers who've contacted me over the years with the same problem. Some recognized it and some did not until we discussed it.

If a shooter is having a sudden problem of not hitting his target, it's one of the things that I ask about.

Just one more of the wonderful things that can happen to us as we age.

Thanks,
Clark

I am cross-dominant (ie. right handed but left eye dominant).

I shoot right handed. I must close my left eye when shooting a long arm and iron sights, and my turkey gun falls into this category.

I can shoot with both eyes open on any gun that allows me to acquire the sights with my left eye (ie. handgun, scoped rifle or red dot).

I have considered placing a red dot on my turkey gun because of this, but I keep applying the doctrine of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it."
