Anyone recognize this style of box call?

While going through some old copies of T&TH I came accross this call. One is in the WINTER 2001 issue on page 16, the other is in the Febuary 2001 issue on page 46. The photos were credited to Robert / Bob Best. The call looks like a cross between a double sided scratch box and a regular box. From what I can see it appears to be very high quality. I was just wondering if anyone recognized the call or might know the maker.

The call in the picture was made by Paul "Vic" Diebels of Malibu,California. The call you have pics of is known as a trunk call. It was of Vic's design . Vic was a wonderful call maker and a great guy who was a friend of mine...he passed away a few years ago.

Tenpoint thank you for the reply, I knew someone would have info on the call. Paul must have been quite a craftsman. The pictures I posted do not do this call justice. They were grainy in the mag and I could get it positioned without glare. It must have taken a lot of time to make compared to conventional box calls. I would like to see more of his work.

Yep, that's a Kanati box call made by Vic Deibel. It belongs to my boss, and we've used it as a prop for various illustrations throughout the years. Truly a beautiful call.

I did a search for Paul "Vic" Diebels and came up with this web site. WOW his calls are a work of art.
