Turkey School Calling (Yelps)

In this series I'd like to go through the different types of yelps. I'll try to explain the difference in them and when you may want to use them? Scoot12 has done the vid on them, which will also help show you the difference. They are much easier to do on a mouth call, but you can learn to do them on a friction call, IF you learn to control the volume and speed of your calling.

Tree Yelp. The tree yelp is a very soft call and fairly quick yelps , with only a few yelps in the series, 2-4 yelps.
yelp_yelp_yelp_cluck_____________cluck__yelp_yelp_ cluck.
Used when birds are on the roost.

Plain Yelp. The plain yelp is a slower, mid-volume yelp. Your speed and volume is very important in this call, there are 3-6 yelps.
cluck_yelp____yelp____yelp___yelp___yelp__cluck _cluck.
Used almost any time a bird is just walking or feeding.

The Lost or Assembly Yelp. These yelps start off fairly quick at mid-volume and keep getting louder as you go through the series. There are between 10-15 continuous yelps in this series followed by a couple of fast clucks.

This series is used when a hen is by herself and looking for other birds.

The Excited Yelp. This series of mixed yelps and cutts are very fast and loud, with a mix of 7-10 calls in series.
cutt_yelp_yelp_yelp_cutt_cutt_yelp_yelp_cutt_yelp.
This series is best used if a Tom answers your plain yelp, if he does then blast him back with this series right after he gobbles.

The Breeding Yelp. In this series you have to control the volume of your calling, it is very important that you increase the volume of each yelp, there are only 3 yelps in this call, with each one getting louder, followed by 2 fast clucks.
yelp yelp yelp cluck_cluck.
It works great on birds that are reluctant to come in or hang up on the other side of a fence or creek. It can be used right after flydown to get a Tom headed your way.

Remember guys the secret to filling tages is to, work one bird and only one bird. Even if there is a few birds gobbling pick one and answer him and only him. Get set up early and when that Tom sounds off you have to cut his gobble off and then go to some soft tree talk, but first you need his attention.
