Late season Hunts....

Fellas how about some input on late season in hunting in the east southwest va!!! to be exact..What do you think about throwing out a jake decoy to these slightly pressured and older toms...Maybe a hen with him or not..Still learning here...Thanks...

howdy gobblernut,
whenever i use dekes, i tend to use them early in the season. sometimes the old tom doesn't feel much like fighting after a while...he just wants the loving. with that being said, every turkey is different. try it and see what happens, if he spooks, leave them at home the next trip. good luck.

Would there be any advantage to having a group (3-4) hen dekes out?  I thought that maybe if a tom saw a single jake with 3-4 hens he would want to rush in and steal them away...i haven't tried it yet, just hingking out loud.

grunt doc, i would say so for the flock to be put out...looks more inviting.

hens are on the nest no hunters in the woods longer days its perfect just watch your calling to much will kill u.

As the season progresses, I use decoys less and less.  To me, it is easier to try and fool a tom because he can't find the hen.  Once the foliage gets thick, and the birds have been hunted for a few weeks, I leave the decoys in my vest.  (They tend to make a softer back rest.  lol)
 
With that said, when one hangs up, I always second guess myself.
