Vanilla flavoring

Why would a Turkey Hunter carry Vanilla Flavoring with him?

There must be, my father is a huge hunter and we recieve the Alabama outdoors magazine, the top 7 things needed to take with you are listed with that being one of them. Why is what I and my father would like to know.hmmmm....

I like to use vanilla extract on  good ol' Iowa Beef along with my special rub, adds a nice flavor. Try it, You'll like it. Peace Out ,Bill

I have used vanilla on deer and had very good success on both bucks and does. They seem to be very curious about it. I have had does spar to see who eats the leaves the vanilla is on and seen bucks rub on it. Maybe its the same with turkey, my guess atleast.

If nothing else put it on the turkey after harvest... god knows they stank.

I doubt it. All current scientific and biological data indicates that turkeys do not have a sense of smell. I know some guys whose calling really stinks though, the vanilla would probably help there.

Bringing a dripper full of vanilla is used for Deer and sometimes Bear hunting but not with turkey. As stated above turkey's have no sense of smell (thank goodness).

O.K Men! I found out why. I guess there are bull nats out in cetain places when your hunting, well the vanilla flavoring is used to ward those off. Thats what I found, thought I would let you all know now that I know, and sense I am the one that posted the question.I finally Found it here among other stuff.
