Picture size?

I love the new website design, but I have an issue with the size of picture it will let you upload...says anything over 20kbs is too large...20kbs is so small you can't see it. Are they working on expanding the size of photos we can upload?

Trace..I'm having the same problem..I tried loading some yesterday of the first bird I've ever taken wanting to show him off a little and share the photo.. But can't figure out why it won't take it..Even down sized the pics still wouldn't work...Anyone help...Thanks G-Nut..

I got my old avatar to load like this-
 
I went back to the old forum (still available) and checked my profile there. The old forum software had automatically resized my pic for the avatar there to a smaller version. I saved that smaller version to my hardrive and it uploaded successfully for my avatar on the new forum as you can see. I couldn't get a profile pic to load so I just selected the "Use Avatar photo for Profile" option. I have gotten a much larger photo to load in the "Prettiest Sub Species" thread, and I just saw where JPH got his 2008 hunt photo to load, so I'm not sure what's up...hopefully they'll adjust the filter for photo uploads or keep tinkering with it.

This is a new format for me too. Where did you get a message about 20K? I have been experimenting with various photo sizes and formats and have not had any issues ... yet.

I will try not to create more questions than I can answer, but here are just a few basics of posting photos to this (or most any) Web forum.

1. First, get a copy of the photo on your desktop before you even start to make your post. That way you will know where to find the darn thing later.

2. When it comes to sizing a photo, most computers come with some sort of basic photo editing software. At the least, it should allow you to resize photos by size in inches and/or size in pixels.

3. Photos posted in messages on this site need to be smaller than 200 KB (.2 MB). When you downsize your photos in inches or pixels, the size in KB will get smaller. To further knock down the size, most photo editing programs allow you to lower the image quality. For a photo that is only going to be viewed on a computer screen, you can lower the image quality quite a bit without it being noticeable.

4. For reference, the turkey photo below is 288 x 442 pixels. My avatar photo at left is 145 x 145 pixels.


5. One more note: Be sure to click on "My Profile" at the top of the page after logging in. This allows you to customize your profile, add an avatar photo (the little pic that appears whenever you make a post) and post a larger profile photo.

Here is what you do to get a avatar picture next to your name. Go to your profile section while logged in. Scoll down to the avatar section and upload a photo. There are limits on photo size. You will have to resize your picture. Good Luck, Mike
