Still Target Shoots in 2012

Postby allaboutshooting » November 7th, 2011, 10:09 am

Here is a list of shoots that include still target shoots that I know about currently.

This may be helpful until such time as the "Official" site listing all these shoots is created.

Weatherby Sporting Classics 11.19.2011

Clinton House Plantation, Clinton, SC

NWTF Preseason Clays 04.10.2012
Elbert County Gun Club, Elberton, GA

Timber Shoot 05.26.2012
Rocky Knoll Sporting Clays, Abbeville, SC

Marlin Mid-America Cup 06.9-12.2012

Hill N' Dale Gun Club, Medina, OH

Great Lakes Sporting Clays 06.24.2012

Critter Path Sporting Clays, Waterford, PA

The Heat is On Clays Classic 07.13-15.2012

Backwoods Quail Club, Georgetown, SC

Mid-Atlantic Challenge 07.21.2012

Hunting Creek Preserve, Harmony, SC

Tri-Star Sporting Clays 07.29.2012

Powder Creek Gun Club, Lenexa, KS

Baron Technology Northeast Sporting Clays 08.26.2012

Mid-County Rod & Gun Club, LaGrangeville, NY

The Jackson County Wild Turkeys Carbondale, IL

will sponsor 2 or 3 still target shoots in 2012 but the exact dates and locations have not been set.

There will also be 2 shoots in OK, 1 in TX, 1 in GA and I believe 1 in MS that have not yet been scheduled.

As the year begins, more shoots will probably be scheduled and I'd encourage anyone interested to "stay tuned" and check often.

Thanks,
Clark

Thanks for the info Clarke. Just out of curiosity, about how many hits inside the 3" circle is considered pretty good. If I remember correctly the shooting distance is at 40 yds. Now I am just throwing out numbers but lets say that I am getting 50 hits and think its pretty good and only to get out there and the other boys are getting 100. For myself, I would hate to go to one and come back with my tail inbetween my legs. :(

You are correct. The distance is 40 yards from the muzzle of the shotgun to the target. Winning numbers will vary greatly from shoot to shoot and even from shot to shot. That's part of the challenge of the sport.

For example, if you look at the winning scores at the World Championship this year, they were all over the chart. At times, a score in the teens would have won and at other times, it might have taken a mid to high twenty score to win.

The challenge is to get the pellets in that little circle. You may have a great pattern just to the left of, right of, above or below that circle but it just does not count.

If you can put 20 or so pellets consistently in the 3" circle, you can hold your own in any competition. Come on out and give it a try. There should be a shoot near you sometime next year.

Thanks,
Clark
