Your right you want a turkey dog to range wide and hunt fast, to surprise birds. Although as someone said, you don't normally want to shoot a flying turkey, but if the right shot presents its self (close and quartering, crossing or rising away) you can kill em flying. A dog cements this as he can run down a bird. I have been admonished for running or flying shots on this forum, but all of the birds I've shot flying rolled up in a dead pile, even more so than standing birds. Just understand i am choosing carefully on my flying shots.
