I just got back from my first season of the spring. It started on 5/4/11 at 0524. As I walked in that morning two bird fired up on their own. I slipped in between them, gave a couple of soft calls to get their attention and then sat back and let them gobble at each other. Around 0540 the birds went silent and I figured they were ready to hit the ground. A couple of minutes later one of the birds gobbled and he was already 40 yards away from me. I watched him work his way around a windfall and go to strut. He kept working around the windfall and stopped behind a tree and allowed me to click the safety off and get into position. He stepped out at 20 yards, stuck his head up and looked right at me. He dropped on the spot when I hit him and barely flopped at all. When I looked at my watch it was 0552.

Of course this is hard. If it was easy everyone would do it. The HARD is what makes it great!
