...won't come into the fields.
---can't see 'em to decoy or spot and stalk.

I'm headed down to southwest WI this week, the birds there have been gobbling a lot through the mornings and early afternoons. The guy I'm hunting with was out there today at 1:00 pm and there were 3 toms gobbling their heads off. Hopefully they keep it up till Thursday so we can work on their heads a little.

well, at the risk of sounding like an old s.o.b., actually you can, it might not be as exciting, your ass may get sore, but it can be done, assuming you hunt easterns, and they act similar to east coast birds, if you've done your homework, and know they are in an area, you can sit and call in an area you have seen them, stay put for a few hours, after an old boy gets lonely [ he's not gobbling cuz he doesn't have to, he's w/ hens ] he may show up silently, if you know where one is roosting, you can hang out at a roost site in the p.m. and intercept one going to roost.....again, it takes more patience than the style of turkey hunting on tv, but if you can slowdown a bit, and you KNOW turkeys are around, you can kill one if they don't gobble.....

had some of the same problems. most tom had hens with them. saw a lot of hens alone also. toms would gobble in the trees then go silent. the toms that did come in came in silent and would hang up on the decoys. had better luck with out the decoys.

Ylpnfol said it all. There are times when you got to sit on yor butt and just wait them out. It aint fun and it aint exciting but it pays off in the end usually. A couple of years ago, and last day of the season, I sat in one place for 12 hrs watching a gobbler strutting in a field with 6 hens. When they finally decided to go to their roosting area he finally got within range. Yes, it was a loooong day but it was worth it. Also, if you do decide to sit them out I would strongly suggest on getting a gobbler lounger. I got one for Xmas last year and man I absolutely love it.
