just this morning i saw several longbeards and jakes in a scattered group. the jakes and all but one longbeard were scratching while one fine longbeard was strutting . one other longbeard always stayed close to the strutter . 100 yards down the ditch and woodline were several hens feeding. i'm confident they were the same flock i saw yesterday morning in the same area.
by the way, i put my binocs on the gobblers and jakes for quite a while just for observation as they were feeding. they were ''FOUR STROKIN' '' in the damp and plastered down leaf litter in the woods edge .
also , the strutter did not offer to gobble while i was spying on him.
