Spring Gobbler in PA- tips on the mouth call

If you hunt PA, you know they are some of the toughest birds to call in. This is mostly due to the great number of turkey hunters pressuring the turkey before the season. Any of you pros have tips on how to effectively call in stressed out birds?

my success at presures birds..

not being aggressive. a lot of purrs and clucks.. mastering a good low key tree call.. also knowing where the turkeys are A: roosting B: direction of fly down C:where they want to go.. once you know these 3 abc's you can kill birds without even making a single call.. iv kill a few late season birds in PA by using this abc method, without making a single call..

i hunt all public land and i know these birds hear every call made in the store. come later in the season i found this is the best tactic..

going back to the purrs, clucks and tree call: a lot of hunters dont use this method.. a lot of them will do the Yelp Yelp Yelp Yelp approach.. trust me, a tom figures this out real quick.. practice your purrs and tree calls..

Pressured birds def. become call shy.. so the less you call the better..

I agree with tex tone the calling down and go to a call the birds havent heard such as a scratch box , push pin , aluminum pot , trumpet etc. Call less frequently and be patient if you know birds are in the area. When you think it is time to move wait another 30 min.

I had a friend recommended using a wingbone call. He said its a call a lot of hunters don't use. Can you do anything other than yelp from a wingbone call?

Yep you can do just about anything with them with a lot of practice that is a good call also for late season or anytime really.

Pa. woods on public ground.
1- Get lost on big tracks, especially on Saturdays.
2- Find some gobblers 2 weeks or less before season , at daybreak.
3-Figure a route they are taking
4-get multiple calls. I use 3 boxes, a slate, a mouth call behind a 30" blind and mix them up.
5- Have a locator call, I prefer crow calls, especially when a birds shuts up, he will answer out of shear terror.
