They usually get cranked up in late February in these parts, though there is no exact date. Some days there's more & some days there's less. It is a great thing once they get going though!
Four years ago I heard a lone bird gobble 20+ times from the roost before flydown in early November when I was muzzleloader hunting for deer. I expect it was a dominance thing with him because I saw a huge longbeard chasing a smaller bird coming from the same direction the gobbles did a half hour after flydown. I ended up keeping tabs on that bird by his gobbling and got him on opening day the next Spring. He is still my biggest bird to date. Story & pictures are on the old forum if it is still accessable.
