I did my first flat sided Turpin styled call. It's a curly maple box with a wamara wood lid. The right side is high pitched and the left is a deeper pitch, good rasp on both sides and a soft chattery purr to boot.
Sharp looking Turpin Scott those calls have a sound all their own I am starting to like that sound they should be great on fall gobblers. They gobbler yelp and cluck really well and have that old nasty hen sound. They have a realistic gobble to them too.
I agree Jon, once you learn how to run these old style calls you can get so much more turkey sound out of them then you do with a modern style caller. You have no problem getting 2 or 3 birds out of each side of the call. And your right about going from these style calls back to a Cost style call you almost rip the paddles off. [:D]
