Can a Kee Kee or lost hen yelp get a response from a flock that hasn't been flushed? Can they be used as locator calls in the Fall?

YES! I grew up hunting with my dad, walking through the woods, breaking up flocks with a pop-shot or two, then sitting down 50 yards away in the direction they flew off in and calling them back in. It worked well for us. But for the last 20 years I have been bow hunting and using the kee kee out of a tree stand, that is just as effective. Since the fall Toms like to come in quiet out here being 15 feet up in the air is very helpful in spotting the silent birds.

Do you use diaphram or a pot call to kee kee?  Haven't tried on a pot call, not sure how to do it.

Arnie both calls will work if you use a pot call try running the striker 1/2" off the edge of the call adding down pressure on the striker until you get the desired sound.

Also pinch that striker tight, you need to kill as much vibration in that striker shaft as you can. If you can spread your finger out up the shaft the better.

Arnie I use both. I carry a slate pot call with a carbon striker for my kee runs and I use a short box. Took me a bit of practice to get it down pretty good.

I never use mouth calls, I'm one of those guys that just can't use them.
