YES! I grew up hunting with my dad, walking through the woods, breaking up flocks with a pop-shot or two, then sitting down 50 yards away in the direction they flew off in and calling them back in. It worked well for us. But for the last 20 years I have been bow hunting and using the kee kee out of a tree stand, that is just as effective. Since the fall Toms like to come in quiet out here being 15 feet up in the air is very helpful in spotting the silent birds.
