It's not like me to abandon the hottest turkey in the woods, but that's what I did. I headed to the point, set up and started calling. Lo and behold, the gobbler fired up, and within 15 minutes, he was flopping 30 steps from my gun barrel.

Could I have killed the turkey across the draw? Perhaps. But on that late-May day, familiarity with a good setup trumped frequent gobbling.
