Do you use a chair, stool, vest, or some combination of the above?

Postby Cut N Run » July 12th, 2010, 12:31 pm

Over the weekend, I got to talking to an old turkey hunting friend about what he uses when he hunts. He (like me) used to go with a vest only, but older bones have forced him to turkey hunt using a low-slung a chair. I have exactly the same situation. I honestly don't know how long I'd last in the woods without a chair. I have a Cabela's Gobbler Lounger (which my buddy uses) and a GCI Everywhere Chair (which another couple of friends use). Both make it easier to sit still comfortably for hours, but are that much more extra stuff to have to lug through the Spring turkey woods.

I was watching a video the other day and noticed that the hunter in the video was using his vest only and it made me hurt to think about.

So, How about you? What do you like, need, or use, and why?

Hey Jim!
I just ordered myself a gobblelounger. I just can't sit on the ground for any extended period of time without my legs falling asleep!
This fall will be my first chance to use the gobblelounger during our fall turkey season, and I can't wait. I tried it out in my garage, and what a difference! I love how it puts your knees in the perfect position!
I wonder how many birds will wander by while I'm catching zzzzzzzzz's.[:D][:D][:D]

I use a fold down stool with a carrying stap....makes it a lot more comfortable especially if you say out for 7-8  hours, like I do.

I use the drop down pad on my vest. I did replace the symbolic thin piece of foam it originally held with a 2" piece, which made a huge difference. Where I hunt it's too hilly to drag a chair along. There is one spot where I've built a natural blind that has a blowdown that is just the right height to sit on.

Depends on how sore my ar$e is after hunting non-stop.  I have used all of them and don't have a preference.  Just depends on where I am going to sit will dictate what I bring.
I can't get any sleep!!!

Most times I use an old camo boat cushion that I snap onto the back of my vest. If I need to I can put the flap down seat over that also.

Jim,
I use a short, foldable stool. The public land I hunt is usually flooded in the spring with several inches of water, so it's a necessity to keep you butt dry, along with the bottom of your vest.

Whatever happened to just sitting in the mud?? I refuse to use anything as a cushion... I'm just to lazy to carry anything around. I can't even make myself wear a vest.

Me too, I have a vest with a old down 2-3" cushion seat.  Nice and comfortable for a guy that is used too sitting in a comfy office chair all day.[:D]
