4-21-10, Matt's first double beard!!!

I shot my first double bearded gobbler on Wendsday! It was a 2 year old with 3/4 inch spurs and an 8 1/2 inch and a 4 inch beard. To make a long story short, I went to one of my "Prublic" land spots. I almost pulled the trigger on a paintbrush long beard the day before so I decided to go to this spot again. I'm walking down a gas line and I go to the spot near where I know where the birds roost and I hooted on my Palmers hoot tube and I got them to anwser me in their normal spot which is East of the gas line. They are fired up and gobble at anything, geese, crows, my owl call. I then get one sounding off west of me, completely by himself!!! I put in a mouth call and do some tree yelps and hes just hammering back at me. I get my wing out and I do a fly down cackle. He stays in his tree probably for 3 more minutes and he flys down as well. I'd like to say he flew down around 6:30 and I'm walking to him on the ground at 6:39. It took him about 10 minutes to cover about 120 yards and alot of that stuff was thick brush. It really was a great hunt. I hope to get some pictures up this weekend.

oh yes ,,Fall HUNTING is as fine , and sometimes finer than spring ,,,,It just requires more boot work ,,,,,,,,,,,,,no sitting around waiting ,,,,,, no scatterin' the flock,,,,,locate and call 'em in .  Longbeards are tough,,,but they'll come to the call.
