These are American Chestnut Deacon boxes, that will disappear fast. A couple of them are very wormy and exude a lot of character, and they are from a CCA project done in Overton Co. Tn. during the early 1920s. I have kept one for myself as my grandpa worked on that project. The others are from Overton Co. also, and from a piece of old homestead on private property where I hunt. last year I trekked up on onto the taller of the 3 mountains on the property, called Big Bald Mountain, where I found the remains of a split rail fence about 300 ft. long cresting the mountain. I got one caller, the darker one, from a single piece of rail, and the others that are lighter in color had to be resawn, endgrain matched, and laminated to obtain a block of Chestnut. They came out great, and the laminations aren't visible, and there is great turkey in all of 'em !
I have put Wormy Hickory, Cherry, and one with a Chestnut paddle on these callers.
GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS, AND STAY SAFE !
