Sounded like all slates to me.

Well one thing I noticed is that there isn't an echo in any of the recordings. That's why the calls all sound pretty close to the same sound. They must have recorded them on a sound proof room of some sort. It's like playing a call in your house they all sound different in different rooms, a call will have a drastic change from one room to the other because of the echo in each room. I guarantee that those calls would sound a lot different in an outdoor environment. the human ear picks up the echo first. That's why your calls sound so much different in a wide open hay field compared to a woods.

There were more honorable mentions for the friction call category, which is why there are more of them than box calls. All sounds posted ranked or received honorable mention. There were well more than 11 calls entered, we just didn't post the ones that didn't rank.

Hey Scott:
Good ear! Yes, the MP3 files posted on the site were recorded in a soundproof room. Zero echo. For the record, though, calls were judged outside at several locations. Also for the record, there are five slates, one crystal and one aluminum call.

Two ideas hear, you can buy from Walmart and it will be made in China totally automated most likely and you can by a custom call made here in America which would be likely hand made and keep the money here at home.

I sure didn't see much wrong with the calling at all personally. It was a fair assortment of turkey sounds commonly made with friction calls. A lot of call makers certainly worked hard on the winning and non-winning calls and a lot of people worked hard to get the sound files up for us to choose from. Neither group deserves insults...Just seems rather unproductive to me.
