32.5 pound turkey

As I hoisted the freshly killed turkey I thought he was unusually heavy and upon arrival at the shed, hung him on the scale and to my amazement he weighed 32.5 lb.  Must be seeing things, yelled for the wife to double check and she says yep 32.5 lbs.
Thinking this might be a state record I start considering what to do in order to get folks to believe me.  First stop - the registration station.  Their scale reads 27.5 lbs.  What the heck where did the 5 lbs. go?  Oh well their scale must be off - my friend runs the local grocery with a certified scale.  Only in small town WI can you carry a dead turkey down the aisles of a grocery store to the scale in the back with no one raising an eyebrow. 
On the way down the aisle the turkey does not seem as heavy as he was at first, but then adrenalin could be the cause of that. 
Certified scales don't lie he is 25.3 lbs!
Staring at the turkey hanging from my scale again it reads 25.1 lbs.  What the heck?
It was pouring buckets when I shot this turkey, his feathers were full of water.  Have you ever wondered how much water a turkey's feathers can hold?  This one had 7.4 lbs of water. 
So much for my brush with a state record bird. 
Still happy with a nice bird though.[:)]

That is quite the story Charlie and a good way to get yourself all worked up. Congratulations on the 25 pound gobbler though as that is nothing to scoff at.

Great job and story Charlie,now for the final test give it to Vic for 10 min. and then see what it weighs. I bet it'll lose more then 7lbs.[:D]

I agree with the others, Charlie, 25 pounds is a hoss of a bird and I'm sure you enjoyed packing that plus 7 extra pounds of water weight from the field to your vehicle[:D] I would also have paid big $$ to see you packing that bird around in the grocery store[:D][:D]
