Early bird catches the worm

Nothin happened much for me on the 1st. This morning was a different story though. As soon as i got to the woods and made a small tree yelp with my Quakerboy OLd Boss Hen mouth call, one gobbled at me. THe gobbler answered almost every call i threw at him but would cut me off when i used the boss hen mouth call. Never came in though[:(] an hour later i was sitting on a log before crossing the field, when i heard a hen. I thought it was some hunters first because it sounded like a call. Then i called and a tom gobbled only 70 yards away. I set up and called for a while, but he tom wouldnt cross the creek. They always do that[8|] Then i heard yelping right behind me and i looked and there, 30 yards away stood a hen. She saw me and walked away. Im happy i just got to work birds and hear gobbles today. Opening day was horrible. The turkeys around my area werent even talking a bit.

got one down[:D] 9" beard, one spur 1", the other not quite. 20 lbs
 
The damn camera was set to black and white and I couldnt tell with the sun shining. I never have good luck with digital cameras trying to take pictures of game I take.[:@]

As promised. Love those "paint brush" beards. It was just like on tv, the beard swaying as he come strutting in.
  Been out for the last 2 days, no clucks, yelps, or gobbles. Took the wife out yesterday.
  During youth hunt weekend, I took a kid out. We were in close to the roost. What was neat was the ol Tom would gobble, then yelps a  couple times after gobbling.
