Stats for the 2011 Va.Spring Season

Postby ylpnfol » June 5th, 2011, 3:29 pm

Va.Turkey Hunters reported 15,689 birds for the 2011 Spring Season. That is a 3% increase over 2010. There were reports of birds exceeding 25 lbs, the result of an abundant mast crop last fall and a fairly mild winter. There was also a report of a bird killed in Frederick County w/ a 16" beard. The top 3 counties were Bedford [493], Pittsylvania [452] & Franklin [448]. It would seem that our population is holding it's own, or increasing slightly. Hopefully the hens will go into the nesting season healthy, and are able to pull off a good hatch.....info obtained from vdgif website.....
