I'm sort of in a pickle.I want to get a bird for the dog as soon as possible,but with our 1 bird limit I'd like to baby season just a little too.Maybe my best bet is to quit counting my turkeys before they hatch and just see what happens.I've got alot of buddies that have never hunted with a dog and want to give it a try.Hopefully we can get a few for the dog and they get to fill tags and It'll all work out for everybody.

Tod if i were you i would kill the first bird you can....dont worry your friends will want to go with you...remember you aint got a bonafide turkey dog till you kill one ...till then hes just a dog...[8|]

I have to agree with Ron . Get the dog a bird first and your friends will be sleepin' on your porch wantin' to go .
 
Only advice I could give is to lay out some ground rules for safety with your friends , before you hit the woods .Safety  ,,,,,for you ,,,,the shooters ,,,,and the dog.
And don't fergit yer camera .

Tod this is a pic of our first bird ...junior is 7 months old...it was so small he retrieved it for me...i was so proud you would have thought it was a world record...lol...i cant describe the feeling but you will know when you get yours this fall...all the best...Ron

Great picture Ron.No doubt when a person puts as much time and effort into something like a dog and all that effort finally pays off it is the best feeling in the world.I'd say first bird is a dead bird providing I do my part.In WV a bird that size we call a fryer because a big frying pan is all you need for FINAL part of the hunt.[:D]
