Gobbler's Pine Box

Postby WillowRidgeCalls » November 25th, 2013, 1:34 pm

As the old saying goes, *Bury me in a Pine Box beneath the Old Oak Tree*, well this is going to be a gobbler's pine box, and as hunters go we like to sit beneath an old oak tree for our setups, so the name fits. This is another Jack Pine box with a Maple surface and Padauk inlay, to match the orange tint in the mineral staining in this pine. These pine boxes are becoming my favorite wood for these teasers with a maple tops. They are very easy to run and will produce almost any sound a turkey can make. You can run a clean yelp or a nasty raspy jake yelp with them, the purrs are soft and you can make it sound any way you want, from a whinny begging purr to a deep chattery fighting purr, the cutts are clean, crisp, sharpe, and loud.
This call is headed to Nationals, Jack Pine/Maple with a Cedar striker.
Thanks for peekin, Scott :) .

Been on the phone and emails with Nationals, about what category these tongue calls are supposed to be entered in? JJ Reich posted the challenge to all call makers to build a tongue call for Nationals this year, the winners of the category will get a spiecal recognition in the NWTF's magazine. The problem is there is no category for tongue calls? No ones been able to tell us what category to enter them in  , guess they don't read their magazine much? It always happen to me, every time I enter a call at Nationals, no one can tell me what category to enter it in, the last time I entered my Gibson's they had no clue if it was a long or short box? It took them 3 months to figure it out, because no one had ever entered a Gibson box call . Now they only have a month to figure it out, I guess I'm a problem child to Nationals  .

Found out that they are to be entered into the Open_Pot Call category. They will compete against the alum, copper, titanium, rock, surfaces. I hope the call judges are some what farmiliar with running a tongue call, not just sure how they would tell who won the tongue call competition?
