That is nice looking. I have never done a cape, does it come out flexible or is it paper stiff? A couple pics of what I do with mine. I do not just dry them with borax, I pull the feathers from the tail and pin them on a board and fasten them together.

Guess you're right ,,,,, my son in Middleburg says he has 4 inches of the white stuff!!!!! Glad I left there when I did.

Doug, when you dry out the cape its paper stiff. Its flexible enough that you can shape it some. In the picture below I used a piece of styrofoam and pinned the cape to it. I did it to give it a little body instead of being flat.

That makes a nice display,,,,,I assume then that you just dry the fan and all with borax??

Yes and let it set for about 4 or 5 weeks. Then use a toothbrush and brush all the borax off.

When I do tail fans as in the above pics I pull all the primary and secondary feathers out and number them, then I pin them on a board and fasten them in place with bondo. I then take the smaller feathers and use hot glue to put them in place to finish it. Takes about 4 hours to do a fan.
Will have to try drying a cape and see if I can fasten it to the fan, never tried it before.
