Well I got my frist bird this weekend,it was a great hunt got the bird on roost and he was gobbling great and when he hit the ground started to leave the hollow I was in I told my brother to start call as he was walking away and the bird could not stand it he came back to the head of the hollow and gobble for a while and then he got quite and then I seen him to my left coming to my right about 30 yards but I could not see him thought the brush my brother was sit to my and could see him he said he was in full strut he was telling me to shoot him but I still could not see him thought the brush then he step out from behind the tree and I put the dot on his head still in full strut coming to our decoys when he clear the last tree I let him have it at 12-yards the bird had a full fan but it was a jake 4.5 beard and little spurs, but it was still great hunt lots of gobbling and its always fun seeing a bird in full strut coming to you.those new decoys that I brought work great they help us tag 3 birds this year.

Roger, I just noticed something. The pic of you with the bearded hen is the only pic that I can think of that you have half way smiled in.

You have had a good season so far and I hope the season ends with a few more bangs for you. Congrats!

I usually don't smile in my pics but that one had me happy inside and out...Not that I am not happy about all of them, but it was a special bird indeed. Long story, but my best friend died a couple of years ago who owned one of the farms up in Kentucky and I was fortunate to tag a really nice deer on his farm last year and then turned around and killed a trophy bird so I had alot going on emotionally that day. I miss my buddy and I am sure he was with me on that hunt.

Add a South Dakota Merriams to the count....I killed him in the Black Hills National Forest on May the 7th.

That makes 4 for me:

1 Osceola
2 Rio's
1 Merriams

Still hoping for an Eastern to complete my single season this year.

TJ, it is a bearded hen. Roger said he was going to get it mounted and I can't wait to see the pics of it.
