Time to prep, serious turkey hunting

Postby charlie elk » May 28th, 2013, 10:02 pm

Now that spring hunting is out of the way it's time to start prepping for the serious hunt...
Fall.
Who is in?
It's only 109 days until fall season in WI.
The poults are already hatching, saw my first group this morning.

charlie

Im with you Charlie but I have 150 days to wait. Unless I decide to wipe the dust off the old bow and that would put me at 106 days.
Is it turkey season yet?

Let the countdown begin. I was out mushroom hunting in the rain on Memorial day and was seeing groups of birds in fields all over the place. Was one group of a dozen longbeards / jakes in a field next to one of the properties I hunt. here's hoping they stick around into September...

I haven't had a chance to get out and look for poults yet, but I'm sure they will be showing up soon. I was out to the island a couple days ago, it's still under water. I need to get out to the other publics and see if they've started planting crops yet, to see what they put in them this year, if any? Planning on hooking up with Vic and Charlie this fall to try some turkey doggin, and with Treerooster for some grouse and turkey hunting, if I can sneak away for a weekend or two?

Excellent! We're looking forward to it... come on fall.

Finding more poults out and about along some of the back roadways. Usually a hen with 3-6. Don't know if that means anything bad or the others are just out of sight somewhere?
