i'm still out there chasin the big one, guys. aint about to give up, even though this has been my toughest season in recent memory.
has been very, very difficult getting the toms to work. birds still flocked up in my neck of the woods - thats crazy for this late in the season.
the other day i was set up between two groups that had about 6 toms apiece firing off from the roost. after flydown, both flocks got together and moved off in a group of about 30.
about a dozen times i've had a tom within 75 yards, but he eventually would drift off with the hens. i've shot a lot of birds from mid-morning on cuttin and runnin but have struck only a couple gobbles this season.
i'm down but not out. my final season begins thursday. maybe by then most of the hens will be on the nest and the big boys will be out cruisin. :D

Good Luck!

I know around here the Toms were sticking with hens and when I saw the hens going away I purred and yelped and it turned the Tom to me...POW!

Called this bird for just short of 5 hours, it took him forever to cross the horse farm and onto the public, then had to work him acorss the 40 acre public hay field, through a small wood lot and away from some hens that was in it back into the hay field and up to the gun. He was the first bird gobbling this morning and I stayed on him until the end. Normaly I'd of packed up and moved closer, but I had 4 birds gobbling in the woods behind me and didn't want to leave them. This bird never stopped gobbling the whole way, so I knew he was coming on a string, but I thought those hens would screw me up, but I guess he liked the sound of my calling better?

Nice bird indeed Scott. On a hunt like that you got to love it and hate it. The loving part is seeing that bird come directly to you for such a long distance. The hateing part is because it takes him so darn long to get there. :D
