No log toss...Williowridge KO's another

Postby 1Morgan » March 30th, 2013, 6:17 pm

Today I carried a 48 year old that had never killed a turkey before. Heard no gobbles from the roost and decided to push deeper into the swamp to where I knew was a good feeding area. He was huffing and puffing behind me asking how far it was. I just kept dragging him along. when we got close, we heard a distant gobble, we moved into a not so pretty area that gave nothing more than a 40 yard shot and sat down. He gobbled a few more times on his own and another sounded off behind us a bit. I hit the mouth call a few times with no response.

Last year, we did a traveling call in the contest that I won. I've carried it with me all year but used it sparingly. It is a sweet sounding slate from Willowridge Calls that Scott Hembrook made. I broke it out and began sweet talking. That bird fire off double and triple gobbles. He was moving closer and closer, it was happening fast. All of a sudden he jumped into our set up. I had to drop the call to get the gun up, took a shot too fast. The gobbler jumped up and too my left right in front of my friends gun. My friend never hesitated and put it down before I racked another round in. He said, " Man, that's my first turkey." I thought he had taken one before. He got it done today without a Log toss!!

Congratulations to you & your buddy. I love my Willow Ridge Slate too. It beat out my old slate that has accounted for 18 birds. Good luck the rest of the way.

Congratulations Morgan as you are having a hell of a great season. Like you said that call that we used last year for our traveling team call was awesome.
