NC Turkey Distribution Map

I pulled this from the NC Wildlife page. The border counties with Virginia have the best turkey population. The map shows almost none where I hunted last year. Given my lack of success, I believe it.

Looks like you forgot to post the link or the map?

Years ago I hunted in Uwharrie National Forest, had a great hunt in a beautiful area encountering very few other hunters. Is this close to you?
Is it still an under used area?

The Uwharrie Game Lands are about 2.5 hours drive for me. I have never hunted there, nor do I know those woods at all. I fished a couple of Bass tournaments on Lake Tillery right around there many years ago when I lived closer to those parts. There are some gamelands around Falls Lake near me, but most of them are party hunt & draw only, which seems stupid. There is an archery-only section there that I'll be hunting with my crossbow.

I have been working on lining up some private land in Person County not far from where I live. It looks like I may get a crack on that new piece to hunt. There are also a lot of gamelands and turkeys up on the Caswell County gamelands closer to the Virginia border. The Wildlife distribution map shows the highest population of turkeys in the state is up that way. I'm going to bounce between several different spots to hunt, like I did last year. I hope it pays off and doesn't end up like last year did.

Whoa, the turkey distribution sure seems to have changed in the last 15 years. Didn't it use to be concentrated in the middle of the state? Or perhaps I'm not remembering correctly. I have a good memory it is just short.
