Turkey Hunting Book

Postby chrisun » January 24th, 2013, 5:57 pm

Was going through my Turkey Hunting Book Library the other day. I was wondering what everyone thought was the best turkey hunting book they had ever read? I have a few favorites, but Practical Turkey Hunting Strategies by Ray Eye is certainly one of my favorites.

My favorite and only book is Turkey Hunting Digest by Jim Spencer. Not saying the others aren't good,,,this was the one I bought when I first started hunting turkeys and between the book and the birds themselves I have been successful.

Ray Eye's book is good and for some other how to stuff;

"Illumination in the Flatwoods" by Joe Hutto

"Turkey Hunting A One Man Game" by Kenny Morgan

"The Voice and Vocabulary of the Wild Turkey" by Lovett Williams

You could also get Ray Eye's DVD "Calling Is Everything"

Denny Gulvas has a video too called "Challenging Pressured Gobblers" Its an old one though and not sure if its available. Mine is a VHS tape.

All good books. Steve Hickoff's "fall and winter turkey hunter's handbook" is also excellent, no matter what season you hunt in.

Kenny Morgan's book, Turkey hunting - a one man game, is a great book. I've got a bunch of good one including a lot of the ones mentioned above. I've also got all of Tom Kelly's books.

Turkey Hunters Digest by Dwain Bland was the first " turkey " book i ever read, i've read it a couple times, full of good info on biology/hunting of all subspecies of turkey [ except occelated, it's a fairly old book ]......i do enjoy Jim Spencers sense of humor, one day i'm going to get his book
