Eastern Sport and Outdoor Show Boycott

Postby icdedturkes » January 22nd, 2013, 2:24 pm

Some of you may or may not know that many vendors and hunting celebrities have banded together in an effort to boycott the ESOS show, which I believe is the largest consumer outdoor show in the country.. The boycott stemmed from UK based Reed Promotions stance on black rifles:

[iAs a hunting-focused event, we welcome exhibitors who wish to showcase products and firearms that serve the traditional needs of the sport. Clearly, we strongly support the 2nd Amendment. However, this year we have made the decision not to include certain products that in the current climate may attract negative attention that would distract from the strong focus on hunting and fishing at this family-oriented event and possibly disrupt the broader positive experience of our guests.][/i]

The response has been over whelming by vendors, celebrity hunters and attendees of the show.. Regardless of animal, weapon or background many have pooled together in support of the 2nd amendment. The ESOS facebook page is completely jammed up with attendees voicing their displeasure and the fact they will not go. And the Boycott ESOS facebook page has growned to nearly 10000 likes in 2 days.

Vendors large and small are taking a huge hit from standing up for our 2nd Amendment as this show can make up a large percentage of their yearly income. Please take the time and look over the below list to help support companies that are willing to stand up for our 2nd amendment. If your on Facebook do as 1000s have done and Thank them or take the time to email and thank a few..

Major firearm manufactures are starting to opt out.. Ruger earlier than this from Smith and Wesson

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 22, 2013) --- Smith & Wesson, a U.S. based leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announced that the Company will not attend nor will it support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The announcement comes after the decision of show management company, Reed Exhibitions, to prohibit the display of modern sporting rifles in this year’s event.

James Debney, President and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said, “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear: We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms. Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen's lawful and constitutional rights.”

The NWTF pulled out also and canceled the calling contest that was supposed to be there. The calling contest will be relocated once a new place is found.

all i can say is good for them guys.... it must not be that big of a % of there yearly income if it was they would still be attending its about time everybody stood together & expressed how they really feel for once...

i really dont have a need for a black rifle but i know want to get 1 B4 they are banned they do have there purpose in the predator & maybe even the deer woods unlike many in washington would want us to think...

.

Many outfitters have voiced they book their entire fall at this one show.. Other vendors have come on stating their support and withdraw from the show either know the money they have put into inventory for this huge show could bankrupt their company..

It surely will be a drop in the bucket to the large companies, to some of the smaller vendors, this can represent a huge portion of there yearly sales as well as a huge increase in product awareness.. Just yesterday a small company was on the fence on the Boycott page.. They sell Shirts and other small items and all profits go to woman fighting breast cancer. They were on the fence as they created a tremendous surplus of T shirts, Sweatshirts, bracelets etc supporting their cause.. A quick check of their web page revealed 1500 hits since they went live, the opportunity to put their products and cause in front of 200, 000 people is pretty significant

Many are coming to realize our rights including the 2nd amendment is more important than the bottom line in the big picture.

NSSF Statement on the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show

We have just learned that Reed Exhibitions has decided to postpone the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show.

In the days following Reed Exhibitions' announcement that modern sporting rifles would be prohibited from the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show, the leadership of the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) has been in intense, frank discussions with Reed Exhibitions management in an effort to reverse this unacceptable decision. These discussions reached an impasse.

NSSF is in no way affiliated with, nor does it participate in or exhibit at this show in any way. Reed Exhibitions does, however, manage the NSSF-owned SHOT Show (though Reed manages the SHOT Show, all SHOT Show decisions, policies and actions are made at NSSF's direction).

Because of Reed's recent actions, NSSF is considering all options regarding the management of future SHOT Shows.
