Illinois Concealed Carry

Postby allaboutshooting » December 12th, 2012, 8:49 am

The U.S. Court of Appeals has struck down Illinois' ban of concealed carry for its citizens. The State has been given 180 days to come up with a law that would allow its citizens to legally carry a concealed handgun.

That ruling was as a result of a suit by a lady who was brutally assualted and nearly killed in a church on a Monday morning while volunteering her time to count the offering from the previous Sunday.

Her contention was that if Illinois had a CC law, she would have been able to defend herself against the attack that put her in the hospital, subjected her to numerous surgeries and probably permanently disabled her. The U.S. Appeals Court agreed.

Currently, Illinois is the only state in the U.S. that does not allow ordinary citizens some form of concealed carry.

We'll see what the future holds.

Thanks,
Clark

I hope what they come up with will allow other states CCL holders to carry. It ought to be like a drivers license good all over the US.

Pro-gun legislators in the southern part of the state have expressed that very same sentiment. They want to craft such a law. Unfortunately, the Chicago area legislators who control most of what goes on in the state, will probably try to delay as long as possible and make the law as difficult as possible for CC applicants.

The mayor of Chicago and several aldermen have already said they want to fight/appeal the decision or exempt Chicago from the law...or all of the above. They've urged the AG to appeal and offered assistance of any kind she might want. Her father is speaker of the house and he alone decides what will come to the floor of that body.

It won't be easy.
