Soo far this has been a bumper crop year for young birds. I haven't seen this many young birds in a long time. I went to town the other day and counted over a 100 in the 10 mile trip. The next couple years is going to be some sweet hunting, in WI.

If we can just avoid a harsh winter the next few years turkey hunting in WI and MN should he excellent.

I must say I am seeing the same. More poults than ever and a wide range of sizes. Some are just a little smaller than their mothers, so food was not an issue. They must have been some of the very early hatched. It has been common to see groups of 4 hens with 20+ poults. Sometimes they are pretty hard to count. Arage poults I have seen with the hens are about 5-8 so it seems like a great success, even though I know those numbers will diminish before they are full grown.

I agree. I've seen more poults than I have since I've been really paying attention the past four years.

Been seeing jakes of the year in their own groups already. Yesterday, found 2 different broods of, may be, week old poults! Talk about a late nest.
About 3 weeks ago I found 2 nests like this.

There may be grouse size turkeys fluttering around come opener.
Definitely a good year to be a turkey.
