I agree 100% with both of you,but for me alot of the fun is trying to see how well I can get a particular gun to shoot. That's all.

I've been shooting an 835 for several years. I've switched back and forth between the 3" and 3.5" and killed turkeys with both. After putting a Limbsaver recoil pad on mine, I've gone back to the 3.5". I'm shooting Win. Extended Range #5's through a .690 Primos Jellyhead and it is awesome. Topped it last year with a red dot scope. I don't plan on changing anything else.

I used an 835 for years before I got a Benelli.  I wouldn't hesitate to break it out of the gun cabinet if it were needed.  I used the factory Ulti-Mag choke with 3 inch #4 Winchester Supremes.  It gave a good pattern out to 40 yards.  The Mossberg barrels are bored larger than most other 12 gauges.  That lends really well to shooting the larger shot sizes.  If you use an incredibly tight choke you will find that they group better with smaller shot sizes.

Secondly, not all brands group the same.  When I bought my Benelli, I tried every shell I could find in a 3 inch size.  I cannot explain why or how the 1 and 3/4 ounce loads of Winchester #6's patterned better than the Federal, but they did in that gun.

When you turkey hunt with shotgun the 835 is the only turkey gun,660 tube in mine killed at 5 yards and at 60 yards,31/2 or 3inch 2 ounce 5or 6s ...thats why its called the ULTI-MAG....zipperman

I have a 3 year old 835 Ulti-mag that due to health problems and a Kidney Transplant I have not turkey hunted in a few so it's never been fired.
I have the XX Full and the Ulti Full chokes for it with a red dot scope.
I just ordered this Butstock and forend for it.
My old 835 would give me a bloody nose when my thumb would hit it with the regular stock.
I am 6'8" and have big hands
This will get my thumb out of the way
I have 3.5" # 5's right now but will be trying different loads
