Cabela's Rem 870 Super Mag

After hitting a bird so hard Friday that it barrel rolled, yet was able to get up and fly away; I have launched into full out shopping mode to for an upgrade to my Springfield 20 Model 67.

I have seen and heard a lot about the Rem 870 Super Mag and I like the ability to chamber anything.

I was wondering if the extra $120 bucks for a fully camod, R3 recoil pad, and true glow sights is worth it over the plain 870?

I did the same thing a couple years ago with a mossberg 500. Was not the fault of the gun. I had patterned the gun with the turkey loads and was good out to 40 yds. Problem was I also hunt ducks with the same gun and I had failed to remove the duck choke and put the turkey choke in!!! My bad. I have sinced purchased the mossberg 935 turkey gun and love it. Short barrel but with the 3" turkey loads I am good to 40+ yds. Have taken birds out to 40. I did get the camo but it is not necessary. Everybody has their preferrance on firearms, I personally like mossberg, but know several folks with the 870.

Oops ha.

I however do believe this was a gun related issue. My model 67 is a factory open choke and does not have threads to accept any aftermarket chokes.

I've killed birds with it before, however they were all inside the 20 yard mark. I admittedly may have jumped the gun a bit and shot at it when it was at the 30-35 mark.

Basically now is the time to upgrade IMO.

Go with a gun that feels more comfortable to you regardless if its camo or not. I have a Winchester Super X3 and its black. I've had birds come literally to the very end of the barrel and it didnt effect them.

Hey retranger, dont feel bad man. I went hunting with a buddy of mine and he shot at two birds, at different times. Both birds feathers went every where but got up and ran away. My buddy couldnt believe that he didnt kill the birds and was getting mad. I looked at one of his shells and it was a 3.5" steel shot instead of turkey.

If you like pumps that rem 870 would be a good choice as well as an Mossy 835 or 535. It would not have to be camo, that is a matter of choice. To me to get the better sights and the camo is certainly worth the extra money, but then I don't like the looks of black shotguns!

Just picked up a 870 Super Mag with wooden stock and pump from Bass Pro for 360!
