2010 fall turkey hunt success rate

Postby charlie elk » March 21st, 2011, 8:50 am

Registered turkeys
Sept 18 - Nov 18  5,530
Nov 29 - Dec 31    1,864  for a total of 8,265 birds.
There were 95,700 tags available, 48,908 licenses purchased 12,480 tags sold OTC.  34,312 tags were left unsold at season's end.
Hunter success rate 12% identical to 2009 fall season.
Interest in fall turkey hunting is continuing its decline with 7,229 fewer license issued in 2010 compared to 2009.

This year the winter kill probably exceeded the hunter kill. Meaning a lot of a precious resource is going to waste due to hunter under utilization.  Kind of makes a guy sad that more folks don't take advantage of this wonderful opportunity in WI.

BTW if you are going to the spring meetings please vote to make the late season permanent.
With low harvest numbers sited above the late season is not detrimental to population so you might as well allow those hunters interested the chance to keep hunting late.

If you agree with me call it fact; if you disagree - call it my opinion.
After all - we are talking turkey.
