LTH 2014 Success

Postby ticklishtompro » April 6th, 2014, 10:00 pm

A great weekend in the turkey woods. We took out 16 new turkey hunters, and 10 of them shot some beautiful gobblers. Three missed, and one rolled one over, but it ran off. Only 2 participants didn't get a shot at a bird. There were plenty of birds to be had and everyone heard lots of gobbling. A lot of the birds were still in their winter flocks, but some had started splitting off. The hunting should really start getting good.
One thing that surprised me was the size of the birds. 2 three year old birds were taken and they weighed in right at 25 lbs. 3 were right at 19, and the rest in the 21-23 lb size. I really thought after the winter we had the birds would be much lighter. Beards were definitely affected as the longest was 10 inches with most being 8-9 inches.

The highlight for me was my daughter's hunt this morning. Shane Simpson was with us videoing and calling. My daughter got her first bird, a 21.5lb gobbler. One proud dad and I will post a link to the video once he puts it up.

Now time for bed!!

Congratulations to all the new hunters. With success like that I'm sure they'll be back. Do you have any of pics up on your site?
Wow, those are some nice birds, glad to hear the turkeys are in good shape. Many hunters were apparently wrong to worry about the turkeys this winter, include me in that worry group, the turkeys are robust everywhere even up in units 6 & 7 reports are gobbling is strong.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures and video. :D
later,
charlie
If you agree with me call it fact; if you disagree - call it my opinion.
After all - we are talking turkey.

I was following your success on FB and the pics you posted on there. Some fine looking birds and happy hunters, glad it was a successful turn of events.
