My season just got delayed 6 weeks

Postby Wackostu » August 30th, 2013, 4:03 pm

Upcoming surgery for a Torn Meniscus in my knee means my Turkey season wont start until Pheasant weekend!

Save some Zone 2 birds for me boys.

To bad you couldn't get your bird first, then do the surgery. Hope it goes well for you, and take it easy on that knee for a while. Hunt some flat easy to work ground so you don't damage it.

I fear I will have to go in for shoulder work someday in the not too distant future, not looking forward to that.
Wackostu I hope it goes well for you. They doing arthroscopic or full out regular surgery?

That sucks wackostu, hope surgery goes well.
Don't give up on the early turkey season there are several options available.
WDNR will issue disabled hunting permits so that you could even hunt from a vehicle. This might sound like cheating but it is not easy to call a turkey within range of say an ATV or truck.
Once the Doc says you can move around on your leg turkey hunting can be done in and on easy terrain within close proximity of trails. Using a small popup blind would also be useful. Particularly if you have to use a wheel chair to get out a ways. They make all terrain wheel chairs that can be rented on a temporary basis.

I spent many years helping kids with life threatening illness do their dream hunts. They were all in very poor health but with some creativity they got out fulfilled their dream hunt. This is the prime group I worked with. http://www.HuntofaLifetime.org
Good hunting.

charlie
If you agree with me call it fact; if you disagree - call it my opinion.
After all - we are talking turkey.
