Dont write off the mossberg 535

Postby fightingspurs » March 19th, 2010, 11:00 am

I was at a shop today talking to the owner and getting his order on more calls and there was a young man in there with his friend i guess and they were talking shotguns. Well they looked at the Mossberg 835 ultimag and the kid noticed the 535 tactical turkey setup he asked to see it and his friend started to rip him saying thats a girls gun. So i put my two cents in and asked him why would you say this  sure its not a 835 but just as good the only diff was the 835 is chambered up to 3 1/2 in shells and the 535 is chambered up to 3in shells both are killing machines and both have never failed me or my staffers. He looked at me and had nothing to say. I told his friend either one would kill a tom and to buy what he fells comfortable shooting.

Actually, the 535 is a 3.5 inch chamber. The only difference is the 835 has an overbored barrel. By no means is the 535 a girls gun. What the heck would a girls gun be anyways. Glad to hear you spoke up! nice job

Yeah I agree. no such thing as a girls gun, unless its pink.... lol yeah the 500 is a 3 incher and 535 is a 3.5 i guess thats y they put the 35 at the end. Either way its a good one. I have a 500 and an 835. Both are turkey slayers. 535's were introduced after I got both my others. Other wise I might own one of those too!!

I hunt turkeys with a 535 and I love it. I personally belive the 535 is a better turkey gun than the 835 due to the smaller bore and tighter contsriction. I had a Mavrick 91 which is an off brand 835 and it was the worst gun I ever owned. My 535 throws much better patterns than my 91 did. The 535 is a nice small compact gun compared to the giant, uncomfortable 835s I've handled.

I would hunt with ethier gun i love the mossberg line and will always use them. As far as the 835 being uncomfortable try the tactical 835 fits better and i love the adjustable stock and pistol grip much more comfortable. The 535 has the same set up on it and i was considering getting one of them too. Again let me state my mistake on the chambering.

my 835 came with a 28" barrel and it was heavy an akward. So last year I picked up a 24" barrel for 50 bucks, cut the stock down about 5/8" , put nice bushnell red dot on it and a comb raising kit. Now it fits me perfect, its lighter and more compact. And it still puts a hurtin on the turks. I will prolly be using that gun 30 years from now.
