2008 Hunt and my first turkey!

Postby gimpee » May 11th, 2008, 5:24 pm

This is my 3rd year turkey hunting and I shot my first turkey this year!!!  It was a perfect situation, sitting on the edge of a field watching a patch of woods, when I looked to my left and there was a nice tom out in the field strutting, staring down my decoy.  I had only called twice and he didn't gobble at all.  One shot at about 25 yard and he was down.  Here are some pictures.

My dad also shot a small jake a few hours later.  So we ended our season by 9am!!!

Stats on the Turkeys:
Mine - 22lbs, 9 inch beard
Dad's - 14lbs, 3 inch beard

Thanks guys, it does feel really great!!  Last year I had the excitement of calling in a couple of birds, my dad took one bird and the second one I was in a poor position and couldn't see the bird at all.  This bird came in without a sound.  It was so exciting.  Its cool to see a strutting bird in pictures and in videos but NOTHING compares to seeing one 20-25 yards in front of you!!!!
