2nd Gobbler Down

Postby trkynut54 » April 28th, 2009, 4:04 am

I went out this morning where I heard the gobbler yesterday while I was working another bird. I got there before daylight and was standing at the edge of the gas line until daylight. Then he gobbled but I couldn't pin point him right away, the wind was blowing some. I finally heard him when he was on the ground. I walked in about a hundred yards and set up on him.

I let out a series of yelps and he gobbled. I yelped again and he answered back but was getting closer. I quit calling and got my gun up. A few minutes later I saw him sneaking through the laurel. He stopped at the edge of a little opening, he was 15 yards away and I let him half it. I blew the top of his head off. This was 6:20am.

Here's some pics, first the Jake from yesterday then his daddy:

Keep at it, it's not always this easy for me, I usually only get one bird a season.

Congrats on a fine bird, sounds like you worked him perfect. There's nothing like killing one early, its like nothing can ruin your day after that[:D].
