Hello everyone,

This is my first post on your forum. I was able to travel out west and to Texas again this past season and had great hunts each time.

The western hunt included my wife and dad.

As far as the  pheasant he is a ringneck and he just happened to come join the turkeys. Ckeck out the photo of the gobbler and pheasdant feeding together.

Just joking about the ring-goose. Years ago one of my buddies raised ring-neck pheasants to help replenish the local stock. He got a batch of jumbos by accident and we started calling them ring-gooses', because they were too big to be pheasants. Know when ever we see a big long tailed pheasant it's a ring-goose.

I'm glad I found you guys although I wished that I'd found this sooner.

Mary had been out with me 7-8 times and because we always see birds and have good encounters, I think she just thinks this is how it is all the time. I wish! 

Her bird was taken on a really exciting hunt in that we found the birds  and kept advancing and moving with them on the prairie. Once we had one of the gobblers come in at 25 yards and walk right past us.

She had trouble holding my gun so she had assumed the prone army man position facing towards the last gobble just over the rise and I had folded and put her cushion under her gun to help her hold it up.

Of course as luck would have it, he popped up over to the right further than she could move so we just watched.  When he got out of site we charged towards the next rise and crawled up over and seen several gobblers putting on a show about 50 yards away.

After a liitle soft calling they drifted down to us and she busted him.

She completely understand why we all love this stuff and now she wants to learn to call and of course I have to buy her a gun.
