went this morning with a friend to hunt in branchville, SC. had one stay on the roost until about 8am. after getting off the roost couldnt get him to do anything. left out around 8:30-9 after a local was walking and spooked him as he was crossing the road to a field. I left from there and drove down to ehrhardt, SC where my property is. 10:00am sat on a fire lane between short planted pines and hardwoods around where one had roosted Sunday morning becuase I saw them in a field across the property that sunday afternoon and knew that they would walk back across the property towards the spot I was at after they hit the field in the morning. started calling and finally got a hen worked up. she started yelping aggressively which turned on the gobbles from the gobblers that followed her. she comes up and starts dusting and they strut around her then start walking back where they had come from. she starts walking towards the decoy but then they started up gobbling she turned and headed towards them. I started calling and cutting with her at 40 yards and she turns into the small planted pines and comes my way. They follow her. she walks up and starts putting and pecking my decoy at 5 or so yards. they were standing 15-20 yards behind her but I couldnt move until she was gone. Finally she walks past me toward my truck dragging them right out in front of me, strutting and putting on a show. Let the first walk past me and laid the hammer down on the last one at 11:50am. 19lbs, 10.5 inch beard and a hair shy of 1 inch spurs. Doubt ill limit out this year because of the schedule I have in the coming weeks, but boy so far has been fun. More Pictures to come soon once I can get them off my camera.
This is my third one MossbergBoy. I am going after my 4th with the bow sometime this week or next week. If successful, it will cap off most greatest season so far. Killed four in 2005, but havent taken one with the Diamond Iceman yet!
